MYOFUNCTIONAL THERAPY
An airway focused approach to wellness
Available in person in Phoenix, AZ or virtually from the comfort of your home.
Myofunctional therapy is the process of retraining and strengthening the muscles of the face and mouth.
The main goals of myofunctional therapy are:
The tongue is a powerful organ that is often overlooked. Correct tongue posture and function has a huge impact on overall health. It can influence facial growth and development, teeth alignment, postural alignment, immunity, sleep quality, oxygenation of the body, mood regulation, and more.
Orofacial myofunctional disorder (OMD) is any dysfunction of the oral and facial muscles that impair proper growth, development, and/or function. OMD can exhibit a wide variety of symptoms.
Dysfunction can occur for a number of reasons. Sometimes it is due to physical restrictions like a tongue tie or a narrow palate. Other times it may be due to compensation patterns from a lifetime of using muscles incorrectly. Although muscle dysfunction may be common, that doesn't mean it's normal or healthy for you.
Oromyofunctional therapy (also known as myofunctional therapy) is a non invasive, natural approach to restoring optimal wellness to the oral and facial muscles. With behavior modifications and repetition, symptoms of OMD are often alleviated, leading to a healthier, happier you.
Oromyofunctional therapy is only intended to improve tongue rest posture while encouraging optimal nasal breathing. We CANNOT diagnose or guarantee a cure for any symptoms listed above. Furthermore, we often work collaboratively with other providers who may provide diagnoses and treatment recommendations accordingly.
